Local Food Assistance Programs Available During COVID-19 Crisis

  • The Council on Aging is offering home delivered meals for persons age 60 and older. Call 1-877-846-8148 and ask for COVID meals.
  • If you have children Under 18, you can pick up breakfast and lunch between 7:15-8:45 a.m. at Hilton Head Island High School. For information on other breakfast/lunch drop-off meal schedules, go to 
  • Grab and Go Soup Kitchens are at 12 noon Monday and Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church on Pope Avenue and 12 noon on Fridays at St Andrew Methodist on Pope Avenue.
  • The Sandalwood Pantry on Beach City Road is open 11:30-1:30 PM on Tuesdays.
  • Holy Family Catholic Church at 24 Pope Avenue offers grocery pick up at 9 a.m. Thursdays in the church parking lot.

The Lowcountry Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program is offering free tax preparation to persons generally earning $54,000 annually or less, differently-abled persons, persons 60 and older, and limited English-speaking persons, at various sites throughout Beaufort and Jasper Counties. Burial Plots: The cost for burial plots in Talbird, Elliott and Jenkins Island cemeteries will increase to $500 for members of Mt. Calvary and $800 for non-members, beginning January 1, 2020.
